This new product is becoming increasingly popular on the Turkish market
Vertical windows, first developed in Turkey, have been used primarily in cafés and restaurants in recent years. However, they are becoming increasingly widespread in other sectors and have now become an indispensable feature in residential buildings.
These so-called ‘vertical windows’ offer great convenience to homeowners and business owners. The quality of the materials used and the technology involved are of particular importance here.
Erdinc Yazganoğlu, Managing Director of Becker-Antriebe’s subsidiary in Turkey, explains that vertical windows are also spreading rapidly in Europe, whilst emphasising the great importance of using high-quality materials and technologies.

Permanent suspension
Yazganoğlu explains that vertical window systems, which offer users a high level of comfort, ease of use and space-saving benefits, are gradually replacing glass balconies. Yazganoğlu adds: “The use of high-quality, standardised products is of great importance for these innovative systems. The actuators that control the system must be of high quality and operate reliably. In some applications, panes weighing more than 200 kilograms can be permanently suspended, depending on their design. When installing these systems, it is important that they are fitted by specialist companies and that the products are high-tech. It is also crucial that the lift-up windows retract automatically in the event of a blockage to prevent potential accidents.”
98 residential building projects in Gaziemir
Erdinç Yazganoğlu points out that the contractor for the Siesta Houses project – comprising 98 houses and built by Koçsa Construction in Gaziemir-Sarnıç – has achieved an exemplary implementation of the latest technological products for vertical window applications. Yazganoğlu adds that the C12 series radio-controlled drive system developed by Becker ensures the highest level of user safety against the risk of jamming.
‘The Europeans are quite surprised’
Vertical window systems were first used in cafés and restaurants in Turkey and are now spreading rapidly across Europe. Erdinç Yazganoğlu reports that the vertical windows are attracting the attention of European customers and that their use is becoming increasingly popular amongst Turkish-owned businesses in Europe. Yazganoğlu adds: “Europeans are very surprised when they see the vertical window systems. The first question they ask is whether the system is safe.” Particularly in shops with large frontage, the weight of the windows can be as much as 200–250 kilograms, including their design and permanent mounting. The vertical window system must not pose a hazard to either the user or the customer. To achieve this, both the use of high-tech materials and installation by competent companies are of the utmost importance.
