Smart building automation with Becker-Antriebe on TV “Welt der Wunder”

Documentary shows how intelligent drive and control technology enhances comfort and increases energy efficiency.

Under the title “Smart building control increases comfort and energy efficiency”, the TV format Welt der Wunder produced a documentary about Becker-Antriebe GmbH for its “Hidden Champions” segment. The feature shows how intelligent control and drive systems for roller shutters, awnings, venetian blinds and other sun protection solutions make buildings more efficient, safer and more comfortable – both in private smart homes and in commercial properties. The programme is available via the Welt der Wunder YouTube channel.

The documentary focuses on the topic of saving energy with intelligent drives and controls for roller shutters and sun protection systems. Becker’s modern automation solutions connect all relevant building systems, respond to the weather and time of day, and thus help to noticeably reduce energy consumption.

When living spaces heat up significantly in summer due to high outdoor temperatures, automatically controlled shading solutions ensure that heat is kept out before it can enter – even when nobody is at home. This keeps rooms pleasantly cool, protects furnishings and materials from UV radiation, and reduces the need for energy-intensive air conditioning.

Automated roller shutters also make a contribution in winter: they keep the cold outside and reduce heat loss through the windows. Depending on the type, age and window area of the building, using automated roller shutters and sun protection systems can save more than 30% of heating energy – a benefit for household budgets, the environment and future generations.

The documentary places these developments in the context of climate change: meteorologists expect significantly higher temperatures in Central Europe in the coming years. A study by the engineering firm Hauser (IBH), commissioned by the Representation of Transparent Building Envelopes, shows that by as early as 2045 there could be almost 100 days with indoor room temperatures of at least 26°C.

Another key focus is connectivity: new standards such as Matter are shaping the future of building technology. The documentary shows how Becker’s smart solutions can be seamlessly integrated into smart home systems – from simple app-based operation right through to complex building automation scenarios.

“We are very pleased that Welt der Wunder has chosen our company as a hidden champion,” says Maik Wiegelmann, Managing Director at Becker. “The documentary makes it tangible just how much potential there is in intelligent drives and control systems – whether in terms of saving energy, protecting the climate or enhancing everyday comfort at home and in the office.”

In addition, Becker points to current funding programmes from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, as well as tax incentives for external sun protection. Motorised sun protection solutions can optimise solar heat gain and are therefore eligible for support under the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings (BEG). There are also supplementary programmes offering tax relief for owners of older, owner-occupied residential properties.
