Robust. Elegant. Durable.

The stainless steel awning for demanding applications – powered by drive technology from Becker-Antriebe GmbH.

The Bremen-based company Seidelmann Yacht – Naval Architecture, a renowned engineering firm specializing in sophisticated yacht designs and lightweight maritime structures, has developed an innovative stainless steel awning that meets the highest functional and aesthetic standards. The fully self-designed system is engineered for use under extreme maritime conditions and impresses with a design that is both robust and elegant. Manufacturing takes place in Hamburg in compliance with the strictest quality standards.

Technical Features

At the core of the design is a Europe-wide patented awning system, specifically developed for use on yachts and ships. Due to its outstanding performance, it is increasingly being adopted for land-based applications as well—such as exposed rooftop terraces, outdoor gastronomy settings, or open spaces.

A novel support structure featuring continuous load-bearing and support arm elements, combined with integrated gas tension springs, ensures optimal fabric tension and provides significant advantages:

  • Wind stability up to 8 Beaufort (62 km/h) – flutter-free and resistant to lift forces
  • Prevention of water pooling during rain
  • Unobstructed headroom thanks to the absence of a disruptive front crossbar
  • Sail-like fabric tension – the fabric is stretched via the arm ends

Material Quality & Drive Technology

The awning is made entirely of V4A stainless steel, making it exceptionally corrosion-resistant and durable—ideal for harsh environments. The fabric covering is made from Soltis material by Serge Ferrari, a fiber-reinforced, UV-resistant, and weatherproof high-tech textile.

For the drive technology, the proven Becker motor from the E12 series is used—a powerful awning motor "Made in Germany," distinguished by the following features:

  • With its precise electronic limit switch, the drive reliably protects the awning from damage caused by overrunning the end positions.
  • The adjustable increased closing force ensures that the system retracts safely and completely even under harsh weather conditions – providing maximum protection for both the awning and the drive technology.

The intelligent obstacle detection with multiple testing ensures reliable retraction of the system – even in strong winds or temporary obstructions.

Application & Special Features

The client of Seidelmann Yacht has created a secluded, visually shielded garden area on their property, as the main terrace faces the neighbor directly. A red portal structure was erected at this location, onto which the awning was mounted. Originally, the installation of two awnings extending in opposite directions was planned. However, this concept proved technically unfeasible.

A notable highlight of the installation is the integrated misting system: water is routed under pressure through the awning arms via lateral stainless steel hose transitions. It is released in bursts through nozzles, creating a fine mist that evaporates immediately and reduces heat buildup beneath the awning fabric—all while keeping the user completely dry. Such systems are particularly common in the Mediterranean region and provide noticeable climate relief on hot days.
